A New Segmentation Framework for in vivo Internal Organs Removal of CT Scans of Pigs

چکیده
The grading of farmed animal carcasses depends on the content of lean meat, fat and bone. Current imaging technologies are able to detect and represent carcass composition in images. To extract information from these images, specialized image processing techniques are required. In this paper, we propose a new segmentation method to accurately separate lean meat, fat and bone from a set of images from Computed Tomography scans. The main challenge is the detection of the internal organs, such as the lungs, the liver, and the kidneys, which are not considered in the manual dissection. The proposed approach has been tested on real data sets, and compared with manual dissection. The obtained results prove the high correlation between the virtual and manual dissection.

Prostate segmentation and lesions classification in CT images using Mask R-CNN
Purpose: Non-cancerous prostate lesions such as prostate calcification, prostate enlargement, and prostate inflammation cause too many problems for men’s health. This research proposes a novel approach, a combination of image processing techniques and deep learning methods for classification and segmentation of the prostate in CT-scan images by considering the experienced physicians’ reports. ...
متن کاملIntrathoracic Airway Tree Segmentation from CT Images Using a Fuzzy Connectivity Method
Introduction: Virtual bronchoscopy is a reliable and efficient diagnostic method for primary symptoms of lung cancer. The segmentation of airways from CT images is a critical step for numerous virtual bronchoscopy applications. Materials and Methods: To overcome the limitations of the fuzzy connectedness method, the proposed technique, called fuzzy connectivity - fuzzy C-mean (FC-FCM), utilized...
متن کاملRule-Based Ventral Cavity Multi-organ Automatic Segmentation in CT Scans
We describe a new method for the automatic segmentation of multiple organs of the ventral cavity in CT scans. The method is based on a set of rules that determine the order in which the organs are isolated and segmented, from the simplest one to the most difficult one. First, the body is isolated from the background. Second, the trachea and the left and right lungs are segmented based on their ...
متن کاملImage-based versus atlas-based patient-specific S-value assessment for Samarium-153 EDTMP cancer palliative care: A short study
Introduction: Use of SPECT/CT data is the most accurate method for patient-specific internal dosimetry when isotopes emit single gamma rays. The manual or semi-automatic segmentation of organs is a major obstacle that slows down and limits the patient-specific dosimetry. Using digital phantoms that mimic patient’s anatomy can bypass the segmentation step and facilitate the dosi...

Introduction: The study aimed to assess absorbed and effective doses in organs through computed tomography (CT) examinations using automatic exposure control (AEC) and fixed tube current (FTC) techniques. Material and Methods: Scanning parameters were obtained for routine adult CT examinations and used to estimate the organ absorbed and effec...
